So here it goes. Welcome to my fashion + travel + lifestyle blog, A Rebel In Prada. Over the past several years, I have yearned to create something, to build something from the ground up. Something fashion related, but, with a little travel on the side. So, this is that adventure. I hope that you enjoy it. As my wise friend Timothy said to me when I was speaking with him about launching this blog: “it will take you somewhere, perhaps not where you initially thought it would take you, but it will take you somewhere new.” So, off I go on my journey to somewhere new.
I also recently made my runway debut (and probably finale) at the Women of Style and Substance Luncheon, which raises vital funds for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (“CHOA”). This luncheon has raised over $1,000,000 in funds for CHOA since it started a few years ago and is always a lot of fun and one of the favorites to see and been seen. Saks Fifth Avenue Atlanta was the premier sponsor and put on an incredible show of the designs of Etro.
The fabulous co-chairs of this event (who do it every year) choose a few women to honor each year for their contributions to philanthropic organizations here in Atlanta, from the arts to healthcare. I was chosen to be one of the honorees this year. Honored to be honored and to be a part of this incredible event this year.
As an honoree, I got to walk the runway along with my fellow honorees, wearing these fun Etro pants and being a model for a day. It was a real Sex and The City moment for me (I was a huge fan of the show), and even though I wore my “big girl” high heels, happily I was not “fashion roadkill”.
But, the real star of the luncheon was a teenage patient at CHOA named Grace, who has survived cancer and a partial leg amputation. The surgery and care she received at CHOA were cutting-edge and truly saved her life. And her courage and view on life going forward was truly inspiring. My husband and I were in awe. She is my hero. That is what this luncheon is about: providing needed funds which helps kids like Grace have access to cutting-edge healthcare designed for them that can be lifesaving.
